Starting and Exiting SSDOT for Pears To build and maintain your Pears databases, you can use the SiteSearch Database Operations Tool (SSDOT) for Pears to invoke Bartlett and other utility programs. SSDOT for Pears is a menu-driven application that harnesses most of its functionality from Bartlett and its embedded utility Bosc. In addition, other supplemental Java programs such as Record Export, Record Conversion, and Validation have been written exclusively for SSDOT for Pears to extend some of Bartlett's main functionality in order to match similar administrative options found in the Newton version of SSDOT. SSDOT for Pears To start SSDOT for Pears, you need to change to the directory, <WebZ_root>/dbbuilder/pearsExes, and type "ssdot" at the system prompt and press Enter. The ssdot command starts the SSDOT for Pears program. The SSDOT logon screen should appear.
Do you want to perform an update or maintenance activity on a Newton database or on a Pears database?
From the Main Menu in SSDOT for Pears, you can access a series of menus for registering, updating, and maintaining Pears databases. Each menu either provides options or sub-menus with other options that allow you perform a variety of administrative activities on a Pears database. To access one of the other menus from the Main Menu, simply type the number corresponding to the desired menu at the command prompt and press Enter. Optionally, you may perform more general functions by typing "l" and pressing Enter to list all currently registered databases, typing "s" and pressing Enter to select a specific working database, or typing "u" and pressing Enter to deselect the current working database.
There is an option on every menu within SSDOT for Pears to "Exit SSDOT." To exit the application, simply type the number corresponding to this option and press Enter. As a result, you are taken back to your system prompt in a UNIX environment and the active window automatically closes in an NT environment. See Also SSDOT
