Removing a Registered Database from SSDOT

If you are no longer actively updating or changing a database, you may want to remove the database from the SiteSearch Database Operations Tool (SSDOT). When you remove a registered database from the SSDOT environment, the database will still be recognized in the SiteSearch system as long as the database is still configured for the system. All the files associated with this database (i.e., the physical database files, the database description (.dsc) file, the log files, etc.) are left intact and can still be used by other SiteSearch components, even though SSDOT cannot access them. If you wish to completely remove the database from the SiteSearch system, you should remove the database from the system .ini configuration files and delete the database files.

Requirements

To remove a database from the SSDOT environment, you must make sure that the database is registered within the program. If you want to delete the database files or delete the database log files, you should perform these tasks before removing the database from the SSDOT environment.

Procedure

Start the SSDOT program and follow the instructions below to remove the registered database.

1. Select "1," Database Registration, from the SSDOT Main Menu screen and press Enter.

2. Type "3" to remove a database at the Database Registration menu and press Enter.

3.Type the name of the database you wish to remove when prompted and press Enter.

4. Decide whether or not you want to erase the history file associated with the database. SSDOT will ask you if you want to keep this file or not. The dbname.history file (generally found in the <SystemRoot>/dbbuilder/ssdot/logs directory) tracks the jobs that SSDOT has performed on the database and the results of those jobs. This file stores all entries that were posted in the jobs listing about the database. If you wish to remove these files, type "y" and press Enter. If you wish to keep these files, type "n" and press Enter.

5. Confirm that you want to remove the database by selecting "y" and pressing Enter when prompted by the SSOT program. To abort the removal process, select "n" and press Enter.

6. Press the space bar to return to the Database Registration menu when prompted by SSDOT. The removal process will not be posted in the jobs listing. To check and see if the database was successfully removed, list the registered databases by typing "l" at the menu screen prompt and pressing Enter. The database you just removed should not be included in the listing.
