Starting and Exiting SSDOT

You will use the SiteSearch Database Operations Tool (SSDOT) to invoke the database utility programs needed to build and maintain your searchable databases. This document describes how to start and exit the SSDOT program.

Starting SSDOT

To start the SSDOT program, move to the directory <SystemRoot>/dbbuilder/ssdot/exes/ within the SiteSearch system, and type "ssdot" and press Enter at the command prompt. This command will start the SSDOT program and display the SSDOT Main Menu screen shown below.

SSDOT Main Menu

SSDOT is composed of a series of menus structured like a directory tree, with a main menu that serves as the "root" for the system and contains various submenus below it. Each menu is presented as a numbered list. The Main Menu shown above is the first menu you will see each time you begin the program.

You can select an option or submenu by entering its number at the command prompt (">") and pressing Enter. For example, if you wanted to register a new database, you would type "1" at the prompt and press Enter to select the Database Registration menu. The Database Registration menu would then appear on your screen. Refer to the Basic SSDOT Conventions and Shortucts and the SSDOT Program Menu Structure documents for additional reference information about how to navigate through the interface.

Exiting SSDOT

You can exit SSDOT at any time from an SSDOT menu by selecting the number corresponding to the "Exit SSDOT" option included as the last item in every menu and pressing Enter. SSDOT will then prompt you to type "y" and press Enter if you want to exit the program, or to type "n" and press Enter if you wish to return to the previous menu.

Jobs that are currently running when you exit SSDOT will continue to run in the background after the program shuts down. If you return to SSDOT again later, you may view the jobs list to see which activities have finished or which are currently running. This feature allows you to start a job before leaving work, and then view the exit status of the job the next morning.
