Procedure
Testing the Access Component with Your Patron Data
Introduction
This procedure allows
you to test the Access component configuration
for WebZ, using the WebZ Out-of-the-Box Interface (OBI) and the sample
accessdb database provided as part of the Access component. The procedure
assumes that you have configured the Access component and loaded data
into the accessdb database by following
one of these two procedures:
The test involves
logging into the WebZ system using the OBI, using a user name and password
defined in accessdb to display a different interface style than the default
interface style. If you see this interface style after logging in, you
have configured the Access component correctly.
Document
Conventions
- <WebZ_root>
refers to the location of your installed WebZ environment.
- Version 4.0.x
refers to any SiteSearch version prior to 4.1.0; that is 4.0.2, 4.0.1,
4.0.0a, and 4.0.0.
- Version 4.1.x
refers to SiteSearch 4.1.0, 4.1.1, or 4.1.2.
Procedure
Follow the instructions
below to test your Access component configuration for WebZ.
1. Start your
SQL server, Web server, and WebZ system if they are not already running.
For UNIX, click here for more information.
For Windows NT, click here for more
information. |
2. In the
ssadmin interface, type "poll" and
press Enter. Notice that the Access server now appears in the server
information table along with the other WebZ servers. Repeat this
step several times to ensure that the Access server is up and running
permanently.
Note: |
Even
if the Access component is not configured correctly, the Access
server briefly appears in this table before it shuts itself
down. By repeating this step several times, you can make sure
that the Access server is functioning correctly according
to the new system configuration.
|
|
3. View
the WebZ OBI login screen in your Web browser. Open
your Web browser and go to the following location:
http://hostname:webserver_port
where hostname
refers to the name of WebZ's host system and webserver_port
refers to the port number of your Web server for WebZ.
|
4. Log into
WebZ as WebZGuest.
- Type
"WebZGuest" in the User ID field.
- Type
"WebZGuest" in the Password field.
- Click
(version 4.1.x) or
(version 4.0.x).
You should
see the default OBI interface style, with a frames-based interface
and a green color scheme, as shown below. (The screen may look slightly
different in version 4.0.x, but it still has the same color
scheme and layout.)

5. Log off
WebZ as WebZGuest:
- Click Exit
on the navigation bar at the top of the screen.
- Click Logoff.
|
6. Now log
in using another user name and password.
- Version
4.1.x:
- Type
"WebZNoframe" in the User ID field.
- Type
"WebZNoframe" in the Password field.
- Click
.
- Version
4.0.x:
- Type
"WebZRed" in the User ID field.
- Type
"WebZRed" in the Password field.
- Click
.
This user
authorization presents a different interface style based on the
user name and password you entered on the log-in screen.
Version
4.1.x WebZ No Frame Style
The following
screen appears in version 4.1.x if the Access component has
been configured correctly. This is a no-frames interface with a
blue color scheme.
Version
4.0.x WebZ Red Interface Style
The following
screen appears in version 4.0.x if the Access component has
been configured correctly. This
interface style is similar to the default style, but uses a different
color scheme.
|
7. If your
interface looks like the default OBI shown in step 4 and you entered
the correct user authorization information in step 5, the Access
component has not been configured correctly.
Try repeating
this procedure first. If that doesn't work, repeat the steps in
Configuring the Access Component for
WebZ (UNIX) or Configuring the Access
Component for WebZ (Windows NT), as applicable, and then try
this procedure again.

Testing
the Access Component with Your Patron Data
After you successfully
test your Access component configuration with the sample accessdb database
and populate a new instance of the accessdb
database with your patron data, use the steps in this procedure to
test your patron database. Determine how different user name/password
combinations in your patron data are associated with various interface
styles or database lists. Then use the above procedure to test these differences.
