Welcome (back) to InSite

After an extended hiatus, InSite returns with technical news and advice about Open SiteSearch. In addition to news and technical items, InSite will also profile libraries making original use of the Open SiteSearch toolkit.

But that's not all.

We've also enhanced the Documentation and Training website with a new Support component and renamed the whole site Open SiteSearch Help Zone: the one-stop center for documentation, training and support resources on Open SiteSearch.

We've added some new sections and rearranged others. Further below you will find a small tour of the site, summarizing the changes we've made.

And of course, we welcome your comments. Please let us know what you'd like to see on Open SiteSearch One. We value your opinion as we work to improve our service.

PS -- Please visit this month's Calendar section, which looks at the upcoming User Meeting to be held on the campus of OCLC in March. The user meetings have been popular at ALA, and we expect another strong turnout. Registration for the forums is only $25. But the deadline is Friday, March 5th!

      Open SiteSearch Help Zone

With the addition of a Support section to the Documentation and Training web site, the entire site will be renamed the Help Zone. Accordingly, the HelpZone is composed of the Doc Zone, the Training Zone, and the Support Zone.

The structure and content of the documentation and training areas have not changed, but they will be updated as needed.

The Support Zone is a new feature to offer users additional troubleshooting resources. Think of it as the ready reference area of the web site. Here you will find quick answers to common questions, pointers to relevant documentation files, and the archival records from InSite and the listserv to help you manage and customize the OCLC SiteSearch Suite.

We welcome you to browse the Support Zone sections. In some cases, you may find a direct answer to your problem. Or, you may get an idea for extending the functionality of the software to meet your needs.

The Product Support Staff will, of course, continue to field your questions. A revised Problem Report Form is now available in the Support Zone. We hope to build on Help Zone and continually offer improved user service.

Let us know what you think.

Open SiteSearch Product Support FAQ

This is a good place to start for those new to using SiteSearch. It summarizes answers to frequently asked questions and includes references to relevant documentation files.

Technical Support Base

Technical Support Base is a new feature to the the web site. You'll find brief procedures for popular topics which are not currently addressed in the documentation area. We will add to the list as necessary and remove entries when documentation is available.

InSite

We've brought back InSite to keep you informed about Open SiteSearch. We'll also maintain an archive of the InSite issues in the Support Zone so you can always refer to published articles and technical tips.

Known Bug List

Find information on the latest bug problems and fixes here.

Listserv Archives

Now you can link directly to the listserv archives from Support Zone. This is a good place to see how other libraries approach common problems.

Problem Report Form

Finally, if all else fails and you can't find what you're looking for in the Help Zone, use our new Problem Report Form to submit your question to Product Support. Filling out the form helps us track user needs statistically and improves our service to you.
