Configuring Access to Databases and Servers

In order for the WebZ system to provide access to a local or remote database, the database and its associated database server must be made known (or "added") to the WebZ system.

Procedure

The following procedure describes how to add a local or remote database to the WebZ system.

1. If one does not already exist, create a database configuration file for your database.

2. Add an entry for the database configuration file (created in Step 1) to the databases.ini file.

3. If one does not already exist, create a database server configuration file for the server which will provide access to the database. You do not need to perform this step if the database is a local database hosted by the WebZ ZBase server.

4. Use the zclient utility program to verify access to your database. The zclient utility is a client interface that allows you to access remote Z39.50 servers and is located in the <WebZ_root>/scripts directory of your WebZ installation.

5. If you wish to add the database to one or more Topic Areas or Quick Search Topics in the WebZ interface, you must modify the ObiTopics.ini configuration file.

6. Stop and restart the WebZ system to initialize the new configuration. Refer to Operating the WebZ System for instructions on starting and stopping the system.
