Backing up the database The Role of Journals
As catalogers update records, each update is written out to a Journal in the journals/ directory for the database.
A journal is only written when a record is successfully added. Therefore a corrupt record will not have a journal entry.
The journals can be used the most recent back up to restore a database if a corrupt record was ever entered into the database.
