Configuring Combined Result Set Functionality

Being able to combine result sets is one of the newest additions to WebZ cross-database functionality. It provides you the capability to combine results from multiple databases into one continuous result set.

When configured for the WebZ interface, combined result set functionality summarizes results to show the number of hits from each source. It also groups records in the result set by database and displays them in one contiguous result set.

SupportsMergeReads

To be able to combine result sets, you need to configure your interface for basic cross-database functionality first, then set SupportsMergeReads to "true" in the ZBase.ini file. To illustrate, let's look at the following example from the WebZ Out-of-the-Box Interface (OBI), version 1:

Combined result set with SupportMergeReads=true in ZBase.ini

In contrast, if you were to conduct a basic cross-database search with SupportsMergeReads equal to "false," you would get results similar to the following:

Cross-database search results with SupportMergeReads=false in ZBase.ini

Without combined result set functionality, you would have to access and navigate the result set from each database individually.
