• Pippin creates a “nip” file.

• What is a nip?

  • Extracted term - variable length
  • Index number for the term - 1 byte
  • Nip type: add, replace, or delete - 1 byte
  • Record number - 4 bytes
  • Record restriction value - usually 2 bytes
  • Count of term’s positional information entries - variable length
